Catapults

LI: The forces of pull and push

I researched catapults and created them from just newspapers and tape to learn about the forces of pull and push.

Catapults are siege weapons and are used to take down walls and fortresses. I joined a group of two other people to make an information guide on the three designs of catapults. Mangonel catapults is the classical one using an arm and a bowl to launch ammunition. Ballistas are like giant crossbows using ballistas bolts being similar to dense and thick javelins. Last but not least is the Trebuchet, they are the largest catapults and are similar to Mangonel. Except they use two string to hold the bowl and throw the ammunition.

Afterwards I started on creating my catapults.I went into a different group to start. First was the base structure. We rolled the newspapers and held them together with tape to make it denser and for it to become stronger. After we started on the base that holds the force of the arm to make the ammunition launch. Next we used the strucutre to add the arm that would be caught by the base and added an arm. We tested it a few times with a rubber band and the arm based broke so we created a larger stronger one to catch the force. after a while the rubber band broke and the arm fell so we reattached it.

Google Meets Panmure Bridge School

The New Zealand Google team had introduced facts about Google to us. The Google team is a group of 80 people making our websites and surfing the web safer and better for us to utilise. Four people came to introduce us to google. Teyha was the newest and was the Digital Strategist. She supports advertisements and other businesses. Her motivation was if you always go 110% at the start of something, your positivity would be remembered.

Caro leads the NZ Google team and business. She talks about how technology can support people like New Zealand Prime Minister’s and other special people like the All Blacks and NBA teams. She’s able to support sports teams by giving them new ways to become more popular over media. Her motivation was to inspire others and do everything you can to find what’s right for you before you decide and have fun.  Simon gets to create the next tech or better, support the present ones. He’s able to see all the amazing tech and information in them. His motivation is how technology can be used to better our lives in many great ways while people still look for more ways.

AI have been a large part of google, they have been able to support the Search Engine, and Google Translate and more. Google Search Engine uses something called LLM (Large Language Model). This model saves and stores every information you could that it finds and keep it until you ask a question. It uses a learning form like using information that its used from before to compare the differences to identify what something new is. Google translate uses a bit more Artificial Intelligence. AI compares languages and alphabets as well as their definitions to translate something comparing languages, spelling and definitions to find an answer.

Google has multiple people who have their own specialty in a category on the google search. Like food, sports, clothes and more. Even though they have their specialty everybody works together to help each other. Inside of google they have their own nice place. They have cafeteria’s and their own chefs. They all celebrate each other’s failures and successes.

Geometric Shapes

LI: 3 Dimensional Shapes

First I started by learning differant sorts of angles and the angles of a triangle. I traingle can be any shape as long as the diangle in total is only 180 degrees. I did multiple puzzles with two out of three degrees finished and sometime 1 out of three finished.

I created a list of six Geometric shapes and their uses. I chose to create Sphere, Cube, Pyramid, Cone, Cylinder and Rectangular Prism.

Later on I had started on their information and the sorts of items that can be created with it.

Information Reports : Bengal Swamp Tiger

We used our smart searching skills to find facts about the Bengal Swamp Tiger. Once we had found the information we needed we made notes in our own words. We used these notes to help write our information reports. Information reports give readers with information on a chosen topic providing them with facts.

LI : to write an information report that informs the reader about the Swamp Tiger.

Swamp Tigers are one of the only Tigers to be able to swim. Also known as the Panthera Tigris Tigris. Swamp Tigers are an endangered species killing 100 fishermen every year, while only having around 100 of their own species.

With their aggressive power the Swamp Tigers use their orange coated fur with black stripes on its body to stay hidden in the environment. As heavy as two fridges weighing to 500/550 pounds. Standing 240 cm high. With their massive jaws and powerful teeth they hunt their prey.

Surviving as a carnivore (An animal that only eats meat to survive). Swamp Tigers prey on smaller animals such as deer, people, turtles, wild boar, monkeys and as well as crabs and fish. They earn themselves about 60 pounds of food for themselves every day.

Swamp Tigers habitats are in mangroves from the continent of Asia in the Sunderbans. They are territorial of their land and homes and live in swampy places that are damper and darker.

Swamp Tigers are nocturnal hunters that seclude themselves from other Swamp Tigers (Solitary animal). Swamp Tigers are an endangered species with multitudes of danger such as deforestation, climate change and more.

Swamp Tigers are an endangered species due to deforestation, city expansion and more. Less habitats are suitable for this species as they cannot travel to other mangroves as theirs become ruined. We need to think about how to lessen animal habitats loss and how to support more. How do you think we could help?

Samoan Language Week – Tatau

LI: How people get their tatau and why for Samoan Language Week.

I started by learning why getting them was so traditionally was so important. That’s because it is an honor and sh0ws respect to your country. They’re aren’t many restrictions exceptt for needing to be at least a young teenager.

Next I started grabbed a partner and created a pattern for the Samoan tattoo style. I gave information on tattoos and why I chose the flower I created and its colours.

Howick Historical Village

LI: The past and how people lived their lives without technology.

We went to our trip to learn about the gadgets to create butter, trolleys and wander around the original houses as well as a church.

First we created our trolleys, we learnt that creating trolleys was the only activity that boys would do in their free time. As they would rarely get free time because they would naturally help with the farm, go to school or help their father around the house. Normally girls would’nt be able to join this activity back in the 1800s. But because it is 2024 they were able to join us. We had to have the bolts go up because we did the project upside down so we could connect the car properly. We started by connecting the four base parts together being the body and 3 pieces that would extend the seat aswell as connect the wheels. Aftwards we added a hinge to the last base part at the end that would steer the cart by moving it. After connecting the hinge we placed a pole through and added a lock to the middle that would keep the pole in place, and we add the wheels while also adding a lock to the ends of the pole so the wheel would stay. we did the same thing on the other side and for the back we did the same except we didn’t need a hinge.

After we created our cart, my group was the first to finish because of me and we were able to use the cart outside with someone on the cart and another person pushing.

Next we were able to create butter. To create butter you needed to be able to make cream my aging milk in a bowl, the fat would go up because the milk would sink. than after you skim the cream from the top you could pour it into a jar. After its in the jar your able to put on the lid and connected to the lid is a paddle that is used to stir with a lever on the top. You can stir but time can pass if you sing this song, ever person sang this song until we got butter. The song was “Churn butter churn. (Name) is waiting at the gate. Waiting for some butter cake. Churn butter churn.” After the cream churned and formed into butter everyone was able to taste it with salted crackers. It was tasty but if it didn’t have the salted crackers it would have lost flavor.

Lastly we were allowed to look through the houses but of course we couldn’t touch anything of course. We went through a few houses and a church, school and a bar. We were able to see all the houses.

My favourite part was being able to create the trolleys because I was able to be inventive and because I was the first to finish and most people were halfway done.

Water Safety

LI: Is about safe techniques in an emergency in the ocean.

First we started by making an information page. Having three useful forms that could be used in dangerous situations like huddling the chain and getting back on a life raft.

Next we created a story where 2 fishermen were fishing and their boat caught on fire and they fled onto their life raft.

Lastly we created an animation on putting on your life vest, huddling and getting back on the life raft.

Healthy Diet

LI: To recreate the size of the portions of food in groups.

First I partnered with my friend Norman and started by adding photography and decorations. Due to their not being much it was simple and quick to finish off.

Next we wrote the each variety of food we needed to eat to sustain a good wellbeing.

Lastly we wrote the amount required for each day and the need for 6-8 cups of water a day.

Rags To Riches

LI: To learn about each three types of sentence and to find them

First we started revisioning about compound and complex sentences.

Then we started on the Rags To Riches, me and my group had found that all the questions until 2’000 are simple sentences.

After that I attempted to find each answer with the three hints, I was luckily able to get to 64 thousand.

Lastly I had continued attempting but only ever got up to 8000 again.

Compound Sentences

LI: to relearn about the use and structure of compound sentences with Year 5.

First both classes chose a somebody to partner with to learn about compound sentences.

Next we learned about how compound sentences have two simple sentences connected with FANBOYS. A simple sentence has to have a character, verb and noun. For example: The Man Flew on the Plane

After FANBOYS are connectors that can join together sentences. FANBOYS are: For, and , nor , but , or , yet and so. Resembling the spelling of FANBOYS.

Lastly I started on a DLO with my partner, the theme is blue and there is one text with two individuil photos.
